Biography Of A Photographer

Born and raised in Northern California, I have spent my life in the San Francisco Bay Area capturing the best that the Bay Area has to offer.  I am a U.C. Berkeley graduate and make my living in my hometown here in Marin County.

I am as at home in the vineyards of Napa Valley as I am in the grand ballrooms of finest hotels from Napa to San Simeon.  I could live anywhere in the world, and I choose to live, work and play right here.

People say I was born with a camera in my hand.  I’ve always had a special eye—I have always seen things from a slightly different perspective.  I have been blessed with the uncanny ability to capture the unguarded moments, emotions and passions that characterize my work.

I Love What I Do…

I absolutely love what I do.  I specialize in natural light, lifestyle, creative, photojournalist-like wedding photography.  My clients lead the action and I let God handle the lighting . . . our journey begins from there.

I am completely present–supporting you throughout your day, yet you and your guests will scarcely notice me.

When photographing your formal portraits, I will completely engage with you and your family and friends.  The rest of your day, I virtually disappear, allowing you and your guests to be natural, in the moment and at ease with each other while I capture the authentic, unguarded moments.

Why I Love Being Your Photographer…

I am a natural storyteller and I am in love with the human race.  I love our faces—we have the most interesting faces, great faces that tell the story of our lives.  And I love that our eyes almost always betray our hopes and our dreams—conscious and unconscious, secret and boldlyproclaimed.

Our eyes are the windows to our souls and our stories, our triumphs and our disappointments are there for all of us to witness and acknowledge if we are awake enough to notice.

We humans are the most fascinating and most photogenic creatures in the history of the universe.  That is why I am honored to be a photographer.  That is why I will photograph anybody, any time, for any reason—I am in love with us.

Why I Love Wedding Photography…

I photograph weddings because I am true romantic (please do not tell anybody).  What could be more meaningful and more fulfilling than capturing the emotions and the moments–telling the story of two people putting it all on the line in front of their family and friends and completely throwing in with each other on the Big Adventure?  I cannot think of anything more beautiful or more gutsy. I love it!

I also love weddings because they keep me loose and in the moment.  I am forced to trust my instincts and lean on my craft with a light, connected precision.

Deep down, I am a perfectionist–I am always searching for the light, the angles and the most interesting compositions that will capture our imaginations and steal our hearts.

I love the challenges.  Each wedding presents its own unique challenges and possibilities.  Each wedding is different, each couple is different, each location is different and everything has to keep moving.  Weddings are a blessing, weddings are an adventure, weddings are beautiful!

Seeing The “Light” In Photography…

A little about “Light” . . . whether you see it as God Light, Light of the Great Spirit, Light of the Mother, Light from the Sun . . . it falls on us, it flows through us and we reflect it back to each other.  I love that Light—I love to photograph it and capture the very best of ourselves to share with our families and friends.

I believe that my biggest gift is my special ability to see the Light. I do not create my photographs—you do. I capture what was already there—you and the Light.

A True Photojournalist In Wedding Photography…

Many of my favorite photographs happen at the exact moment when the awareness of my camera disappears.

I also have a gift for photographing people who do not particularly enjoy having their picture taken. I’m really good at it. So, if you happen to be camera shy, prepare to be amazed at how I capture you, at your best, relaxed, confident and in your body.

I experience weddings as a collaboration and together, we will capture the true story of your wedding day—the moments, the emotions and the people.

A successful photograph should change us—it should change how we look at each other and how we experience the world. A photograph is just like life—it is a shared experience.

My Legacy Of Photography. . .

Every artist dreams of leaving a legacy of work that will live long after they are gone. That is my dream too—it drives my entire being–it shows in my efforts and it shows in my images.

I am committed to giving my very best with every wedding that I photograph. I want you and your family and your friends to love my work so much that you will pass it on and share it with everybody in your life. And, in turn, they will pass it on to share it with everybody in their lives and so on and so on.
